Garden Club celebrates
special cake at the end of its annual general meeting and prize-giving ceremony, which was attended by Mrs. Thorold Masefield.
Since it was founded in 1921, the club has played an active role in the community. From 1922 it has assisted with floral activities at the annual Agricultural Exhibition, and was also responsible for the major addition to the Horticultural Hall in the Botanical Gardens.
It was one of the founding societies of the Bermuda National Trust, has also sponsored various competitions, and assisted with civic projects. Annual scholarships are awarded to students of horticulture, with Dr. Walwyn Hughes, Mr. Edward Manuel and Dr. James Burnett-Herkes among past recipients.
As a registered charity The Garden Club is one of 19 organisations included in the Heritage Exhibition honouring volunteers, now on at City Hall.
