Government looking for road safety officer
one month.
The search is currently on for a new officer, following the departure of Laura Smith in the middle of August.
Transport Control Department director Donald Dane said another member of staff was filling in during the selection process and carrying on the work started by Mrs. Smith.
Mr. Dane said there would be continuation of Mrs. Smith's work, which was particularly important during the current concerns over road safety -- especially as 11 people had died in road accidents this year.
Mrs. Smith had been road safety officer since 1989, apart from a two year secondment to the Department of Legislative Affairs and Women's issues, when another officer took over.
She has left to study law.
The post of road safety officer has been advertised, with a closing date of September 30 for applications.
The job description includes education of the motoring public, particularly schoolchildren, developing a media campaign and administering the affairs of the Road Safety Council.
A degree in business education is required for the post, which carries a salary range of $53,033 to $56,743.
