kind donation of a prize of $600 worth of free groceries.

The goods were donated by Mr. Bill Scott who won a 90 seconds shopping spree at Lindo's Market after purchasing an Islandwide Productions raffle ticket.

Mr. Scott said that though he and his wife could use the groceries they figured "other people were in far greater need''.

In order to get a good number of groceries, Mr. Scott requested the speed of Mr. John Tucker, a youth group leader for the Salvation Army in St. David's.

And within the 90 seconds Mr. Tucker filled up his shopping cart with plenty of canned goods throwing in whatever caught his eye.

Mr. Tucker collected $328.03 worth of groceries and members of the Salvation Army were later allowed to leisurely go around and pick up a few more items that were needed.

Managing director of Lindo's Mr. Giorgio Zanol said: "It's a great event and a great gesture made by Mr. Scott.'' Because of the good cause Mr. Zanol did not mind the temporary mess made in the store's aisles.

Divisional Secretary of the Salvation Army Captain Max Barrett said the groceries would be used for emergency food assistance for families in need.

Overseer of the Family Service programme in St. George's and St. David's Lt.

Brian Slous said the emergency food operation was an all year round programme.

Associate member of Islandwide Productions Mr. Jimmy Bailey said he hoped Bermuda would make supermarket sweeps as popular as they are in the United States.

Mr. Bailey, who will be traveling to the US to investigate supermarket sweeps said: "I intend to find out how they operate, the main reason behind them, and how we can get more involved in Bermuda.

"I think it would be fun for people to get involved with the sweeps,'' Mr.

Bailey said.

"They can either keep the groceries themselves or they can donate them to charity. I also believe that sweeps would be a hit with wholesale agents.'' Mr. Bailey added: "Islandwide is setting a trend that `it's all right to have a production show but it is let's think of the community that makes the whole thing possible.'' Islandwide Productions president Mr. Geddes A. Clemendor said part of the proceeds from the raffle sales will go to the Sunshine League, NADA and Cedar Grove School.
