Bridge in St. George's will begin tonight.

According to the Ministry of Works & Engineering, structural steel plating on the surface of the bridge will have to be replaced. Much of the existing structure has corroded and has deteriorated from vehicle impact.

Night time repairs to correct the problem will begin tonight at 7.30 p.m. and are expected to last several weeks.

Crews on the 7.30 p.m. to 2.30 a.m. shift will work seven nights a week.

The Ministry are asking motorists to use extreme caution and reduce their speed across the bridge. Traffic will be restricted to a single lane and will be controlled by traffic lights.

The steel plating being repaired currently provides a four foot wide lane for cycles in two directions over the open steel grating of the bridge. Work crews will be cutting and welding replacement plating in place.
