General manager Mr. Frank Schmitz, who claims to be the first to serve Beaujolais Nouveau in Bermuda for three years, said the American Beaujolais imported earlier this week was not the real thing.

"Traditionally, the race to bring the first red wine of the vintage pressed and bottled took place between France and Britain. Then, others jumped on the bandwagon, and US producers started to produce wine from the same grape.

However, Beaujolais can only be produced in Beaujolais and anything else is not authentic,'' he said.
