Museum gets go-ahead for new halls
add two new exhibition halls to its property.
The Development Applications Board approved the plans as well as those for a caretaker's apartment to be constructed at the Dockyard site.
The DAB ordered that all details submitted comply with the requirements of the Chief Fire Officer, the Chief Environmental Health Officer and the Bermuda Building Code.
Museum director Dr. Ed Harris was off the Island yesterday and unable for comment but it is understood the museum is to go ahead with its plans.
Meanwhile, the Board has refused an application from the Henry VIII Restaurant and Bar to enlarge its Oak Room.
Managing director Mr. John Ferris said the restaurant had requested permission for "a small extension'' to the bar.
"It's a bit crammed in the entrance-way as you come into the bar at the moment,'' he said. "We just want it pushed back and made a bit larger.'' Mr. Ferris said the changes would allow the room to accommodate another 30 to 40 persons in addition to the 110 it can seat now.
