One-man show Well-known Bermudian artist Henry Ward will hold a one-man exhibition in the new Burnaby Street Gallery next week -- the second time his

Entitled New Bermuda Paintings, Mr. Ward's canvases will focus solely on local landscapes which, given his style, should make for dramatic viewing far removed from the "little pink cottage'' genre.

Trained at the University of Southampton's Winchester School of Art, the University of London's Goldsmith's College, and London's Chelsea School of Art, and the holder of a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Fine Art and History, and a Master's degree in Contemporary Art Theory, Mr. Ward has received several awards for his work.

Well-known to local art lovers through past exhibitions in Bermuda, Mr. Ward has also exhibited in London, England; Ontario, Canada, and New York. He has been residing in the latter city for the past two years, where his most recent exhibition was a one-man show in the Tatischeff Gallery on 57th Street.

Mr. Ward's forthcoming Bermuda show, which opens on January 19 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and not January 21 as stated on the mailed invitations, will be his first solo exhibition here in two years.

The Burnaby Gallery -- Hamilton's newest -- is located on the ground floor of the LOM Building at the corner of Burnaby and Reid Streets, and states its aims are "to provide exhibitions of original contemporary art by Bermudians in a new, pristine environment''.

The Gallery first opened in December, 1999 with a group exhibition which included works by Victoria Barnhill-Hensen, Graham Foster, Elizabeth Mulderig, Al Seymour and Mr. Ward.

The new Manager is Ms Debbie Harper, formerly of the Masterworks Foundations' Terrace Gallery at Dockyard, where she co-ordinated the artist-in-residence programmes. Burnaby Gallery exhibitions are being curated by an advisory panel of local individuals with relevant experience, and co-ordinated by Ms Harper.

Gallery hours are: Tuesdays though Fridays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Exhibitions are planned through the summer of 2000.

Solo Show: Bermudian artist Henry Ward, whose self-portrait is shown here, opens his first solo exhibition in two years at the Burnaby Gallery on the corner of Burnaby and Reid Streets on January 19.
