Competition at Horseshoe Bay next Saturday.

Sponsored by the Institute of Bermuda Architects, there are five categories with teens between 13 and 19 especially invited to compete for prizes.

"This is something that all can participate in,'' said Nicky Gurret of the Institute. "We really want young people with all their energy and ideas to come out and build some great sandcastles.'' Teams of up to five people compete in one category beginning at noon and finishing at 4 p.m. when the judging begins.

The categories are families, teenagers between 13 and 19, children under 12, adults or companies, and tourist groups.

Ms Gurret said the competition is a great way for families to spend the day together and she encouraged tourists to join as an excellent way to meet Bermudians: "In this day and age you get parents doing one thing and children doing another,'' she said. "But with sandcastle building, they are together in a competition -- something you normally don't get.'' Mermaid in the sun: Young people, families, businesses, and tourists are invited to take part in next Saturday's Sandcastle Competition at Horseshoe Bay in Southampton.
