Shopping is relaxing in St. George's
George's and one of the most popular and interesting stores in town, Robertson's Drug Store , originally built by the late Frederick Robertson in 1921 and currently owned by his daughter, Rita Rothwell. They are open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. except Sunday which opens form 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
You find things here that you do not see in other stores. Downstairs they have toys and craft games along with book bags and handsome Parker pens. Upstairs they offer fine chocolates, biscuits and a terrific selection of children's books and Christmas cards. They offer an excellent stock of smoking pipes, perfume and fine English soaps and powders.
Beside Robertson's is the Frangipani , a clothing store named after the island fragrant blossoms. The owner, Ms. Linda Henry, provides vibrant, fashionable, casual wear for the day or evening. Nicholas, the store's dapper chap, will be sitting outside in his usual chair on December 3 when many of the Bermuda National Trust places of historic interest will be open for their annual open house from 6.30 to 8.30 p.m.
The town will be decorated and there will be entertainment on King's Square and St. Peter's Church. Highlights include the Bermuda Chamber Choir, the St.
George's Preparatory School Singers and the East End Primary School Choir, Sinfonia Brass and many more.
Ceramica Bermuda, next door to the police station, has a fine selection of ceramics for home and garden having just received a larger consignment of tine pottery from their supplier in Spain. They have a variety of reasonably priced hand-painted bowls, pitchers, decorative plates and many different and unusual pieces.
The owner, Bill Freeman, said: "All the pots, planters and window boxes will be on sale (less 20%) for the month of December. To better show off our wares and accommodate new lines we have taken over the adjoining store which will double the size of our display areas.'' Across from the Ceramica shop is the Crackerbox on York St. owned by Mrs.
Wendy Rowntree, with a colourful assortment of hand craved wooden animals from the island of Bali and other gift items.
Across the street and down the side lane turn onto Water Street and take a moment to browse in The Book Cellar , located below the historic "Tucker House''.
