Taylor-mad for Folk Club
Club's great 1993 line up of acts.
Allan has played in the Islands a number of times already and he will be appearing at the Old Colony Club on Saturday, June 5.
He has been singing for 27 years and a recording artist for the past 22 years.
His songs have been recorded by world famous artists such as Fairport Convention, Frankie Miller, Don Williams, Hannes Wader, The Furies and Francoise Hardy.
Three years after beginning his career he toured with Fairport Convention, who continue to perform in one form or another today.
He became influenced by American music in the early 70s, and formed a band called Cajun Moon, to break down the barriers in music by using diverse styles like traditional, mediaeval, Appalachian and Cajun music.
They broke up in November 1976, when Allan was forced to take a rest due to overworked vocal chords.
During the last 20 years he has established an international reputation as a leading songwriter and performer touring extensively through the US and Europe.
He was recently included in the Oxford Book of Traditional Verse as one of the writers who best furthers the folk tradition.
Editor of the book, Mr. Frederick Woods said: "Allan Taylor is one of the more literate and sensitive of the contemporary songwriters in terms of words and music and one who is capable of exploring more complex subjects than most of his contemporaries.
"Less prolific than most, he has so far compensated for lack of quantity by sustained quality, and he should probably be regarded as potentially the most important songwriter of his generation.'' Tickets are available from Opus One, On Reid Street.
