Time for winter planting

According to the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, those eager to expand their gardens have a wide variety of plants to choose from.
Here are a list of the vegetables and flowers that can be planted during the month of January: Vegetables: Beans/fava, beans/snap, beets, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, chard, chicory, chives, collards, eddoe, endive, kale, kohlrabi, leeks, lettuce, mustard greens, onions, parsley, peas, potatoes, radish, rutabaga, spinach, strawberries, thyme, turnips, upland cress and watercress.
Flowers: Ageratum, antirrhinum, aster, aubrieta, begonia, bells of Ireland, candytuft, carnations, centaurea, chrysanthemum, cineraria, dahlia, dianthus, geranium, gerbera, gypsophila, impatiens, larkspur, lathyrus, nasturtium, nicotiana, pansy, petunia, phlox, rudbeckia, salipiglossis, salvia, statice, snow-on-the-mountain, spider flower/cleome, star-of-the-veldt, stock, sweet William, verbena and viola.
