Unity concert tomorrow night
until tomorrow night.
Third World was founded in 1973 and is best known for songs such as "96 Degrees in the Shade'', "Live It Up'', "Reggae Ambassador'' and "Cool Meditation''.
The Royal Gazette understands that the show, originally scheduled for Saturday evening, was put off until Tuesday because of a death in the original promoter's family.
But David Frost of Treble Clef Productions said his promotion company along with Yhoshi Group and Choy Aming Productions will be sponsoring the "Unity Concert for the People''.
Mr. Frost said the concert hoped to do something similar to what Bob Marley attempted with the "Peace'' concert in Jamaica -- with leaders from the two opposing political parties meeting onstage for a show of unity.
"Both (PLP leader) Jennifer Smith and (Premier) Pamela Gordon have been invited. It's hard to put pressure on someone who's lost, but hopefully there will be good sportsmanship,'' said Mr. Frost. "Regardless of who wins or loses, everything must go on -- we've all got to live in Bermuda and work together,'' he added.
Mr. Frost said local group Legacy will perform as the opening act, and Third World is expected to be onstage for a minimum of three to four hours. Tickets are $35 and are available at Dub City, Robin Hood, 27th Century Boutique, and Yhoshi Corporation on Till's Hill. Gates will open at 8 p.m. and show time is at 9 p.m.
