Walking for a worthy cause
the first Women's Resource Centre Relay Walkathon.
The event, which is not a race but a fund-raiser for the centre, kicks off at 9 a.m. tomorrow from St. George's Town Square.
Walkers may trek the whole St. George's to Dockyard route or simply do one or more of the six sections ranging from three to five miles. Other starting points and times are as follows: 9:40 a.m. at the airport 10:20 a.m. at Shelly Bay 11 a.m. at the Botanical Gardens 12 p.m. at Astwood Cove 1 p.m. Naval Air Station Annex Organisers Miss Toni Daniels and Mrs. Pat Phillip-Bassett say the walkathon can be used as a training walk for the End-to-End.
"Anyone can join in,'' Miss Daniels said. "It is not a marathon or a professional thing, so bring the family,'' she urged.
To mark the event, Women's Resource Centre T-shirts are available to participants at the reduced price of $10.
Pure Water (Bermuda) Ltd. will be sponsoring water stops along the route. The registration fee is $2 and interested walkers may visit the centre opposite Magistrates' Court on Parliament Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today or call 295-3882 for information and sponsorship forms.
