Ziggy plans to return to island -- for Jamaica world cup qualifier
Ziggy Marley says he knows who is going to win the upcoming World Cup Soccer game between Bermuda and Jamaica, and he plans to return to National Stadium to watch the game.
"Jamaica 3: Bermuda 1'' was his confident forecast if the aggregate score after Saturday night's sold-out concert, where he shared the stage with his mother, Rita. Ziggy's band, the Melody Makers, includes three more of late Reggae superstar Bob Marley's children. The reunion was a rare family outing, since Rita records separately from the rest of the clan. Full review on Page 14 The concert drew more than 4,000 people, including visitors from New York and other East Coast cities. There were no security problems like those seen at last month's Reggae Festival at the same venue, although a short but intense shower dampened the proceedings just as the Melody Makers were preparing to take the stage.
It was the band's third appearance in Bermuda, for which the Marleys have developed an affinity. "Bermuda always treat us nice,'' Ziggy told The Royal Gazette . "Everyone here so friendly.'' Concert promoter Choy Aming was extremely pleased with the results of his year-long effort to mount the show.
"Ziggy played one of his very first overseas concerts here,'' he said. "And tonight he and his family have played one of their best.'' However, any knowledgeable soccer fan would confirm that Ziggy's remarkable musical talents clearly exceed his skill as a football forecaster.''
