A camp with the maturing male in mind
piloted this summer.
Teen Services has scheduled a five week programme beginning in July, which is designed to help young males, aged 13 to 14, become more responsible men. The Teen Services Summer Enrichment Programme for Boys will be conducted around eight general areas, which include emotional, mental and physical health, personal and social development as well as spiritual, cultural and historical education, said director Mrs. Sharol Simmons.
"These concepts are important in the development of young men becoming productive adults,'' she noted.
Boys will learn how to think before they respond to a situation rather than simply respond to a situation. They'll learn to make wiser decisions, said Mrs. Simmons.
"The enrichment programme will help boys develop a more responsible and mature approach to their lives rather than a reactionary one. We'll also help them handle personal and social problems as related to the family and society.
"We will provide counselling as needed,'' she added.
Through the enrichment programme, boys should develop a healthier outlook about themselves and the community.
"We see it as a anti-violent and drug prevention programme. We want to teach males to be productive rather than non-productive,'' Mrs. Simmons said.
