ANC member Clare Stewart was last seen sitting in a truck outside her house last November, says Amnesty International.

South African police have yet to produce a clear explanation for her disappearance.

Local Amnesty members are highlighting the case, and those of other women, in recognition of International Women's Day on Tuesday.

And they want residents to help them lobby foreign governments over human rights abuses.

"AI Bermuda is participating in Amnesty International's worldwide women's campaign for whole month of March,'' said local spokesperson Ms Fiona Traynor.

"Everyone can participate by dropping by AI Bermuda's information table in the Walkway, between Reid and Front Streets, every Friday from noon to 2 p.m.

"Members of the public are encouraged to sign their names to letters which outline rights abuses committed against women worldwide.

"The letters are sent to foreign government officials letting them know people from all over the world, including concerned Bermudians, are urging them to stop human rights violations within their countries.''
