Anniversary concert
years of service as organist with a special concert.
Soprano Lorna MacDonald, head of voice studies at the University of Toronto, and long-time friend of Mrs. Henderson, will head the list of participating musicians at Sunday's concert.
She will be joined by Tim Rhodes (trumpet), Lisa Maule on clarinet, advanced violin student Nicola Francis and accompanist Susan Soehner.
The programme, which includes the adagio from Mozart's Clarinet Concerto and a Bach trumpet concerto, also features the music of Purcell, Schubert, Gounod, Rossini and Cherubini.
Proceeds from the concert will go to the Organ Fund for its restoration -- and completion. Says concert committee chairman Reginald Rawlings: "The cathedral organ was actually never completed, as its casing was never built! "We're hoping to rectify that and, on the restoration side, we need to refurbish the organ chambers and to replace the console. So, we are hoping that people will support this `thank you' to Ruth on her 20th anniversary and help us carry out the work that needs to be done on the organ at the same time.'' The Concert, under the patronage of Community and Cultural Affairs Minister Yvette Swan, takes place this Sunday at 4 p.m. Admission (available at the door) is $10.
