subject of a book by a renowned Canadian historian.

Wilfred Onions, who designed the City Hall and spire of St. James Church in Somerset is credited with reviving the Bermuda style.

Now historian Howard Smith has been commissioned to write a book on the architect who died in 1959.

And he is hoping to contact anyone who knew Mr. Onions who might be able to provide him with vital background material for his manuscript.

"Onion's reputation in Bermuda is one of national treasure,'' Mr. Smith said.

"Obviously it is time the rest of the world had a chance to discover Wil Onions.

"This project was given impetus by the deaths of Martin Smith and Sir Jeffery Astwood.

"We realised that the generation that best knew Wil was passing and it was imperative that we record their stories before it was too late.'' Anyone interested in helping Mr. Smith with his project can contact him on 235-1925 between February 12 and 24 when he will be on the Island researching material.
