Back and better than ever

"We're back and we're still the best,'' said manager, Mr. Costanzo DiMeglio in a press release announcing the Little Venice and Club re-opening in mid-April.

"As you mature, a person's definition of what is a fun night out changes a little,'' said Mr. DiMeglio. "Our clientele grew out of what the Club had to offer. And we knew we had to rebuild to change the concept.'' "Twenty-five years ago when we opened the club, we were all kids ...

happy go lucky, we stayed up late ... who cared? We had fun. Now we find that all of our friends from those days still want a place in the evening to dance. But today the idea is for somewhere a bit less frantic, more sophisticated, elegant,'' said Mr. Jacky DiMeglio, co-owner.

The Little Venice company's cosmopolitan ideas led to the building of a multi-functional room which provides an entirely new venue for their customers. "Multi-purpose rooms exist all over the world,'' said Mr. Costanzo DiMeglio. "You see them in cities like New York, Palm Beach and London.

"We thought Bermuda needed such a room because we don't have one -- outside of the hotels. And we realised we couldn't build up the room as simply another disco or club,'' he said.

The newly renovated Club represents all of English conservatism, Bermuda colours and European style, according to Mr. DiMeglio. The Bermuda shutters attached to the side windows show off true Bermuda blue colours while the marble and mahogany bar reflects a European flare.

Cast iron wine racks reminiscent of old England were specially made for the Club and set into the back brick wall. "We have a spectacular selection of wines on display,'' said assistant manager, Mr. Thomas Mayer, "especially in first growth French red Bordeaux. And we only sell them at a ten percent mark-up to keep the prices of quality wines down,'' he said.

The Club is perfect for those seeking a leisurely luncheon, highly personalised service and a daily changing menu in a sophisticated setting, according to Mr. DiMeglio.

During happy hour, light snacks or hors d'oeuvres are available in a lounge-type ambience.

And in the evening, the Club provides a fun place to dance and to socialise.

"The music concept has changed,'' said Mr. DiMeglio. "We still want people to dance, but we're catering to a more sophisticated crowd.'' It's a crowd that had no place to go until now. "But we look forward to seeing them all again and welcoming all of Bermuda to be part of the new Club,'' said Mr.

Emilio Barbieri, Club founder.
