Risk & Insurance Management Society (RIMS) conference in San Francisco next week.

Official estimates suggest that as many as 200 people from Bermuda will go.

Mr. Giles North, the chairman of the RIMS sub-committee of the Insurance Advisory Committee, said that up to 150 registered delegates could be at the conference this year, meeting with insurance buyers.

He speculated some people will attend the conference with their spouses, and some will attend without his committee's prior knowledge.

But Bermuda will have an even larger presence, as the Bermuda Insurance Symposium, scheduled for this spring, will be highlighted in a 30 second television advertisement that will be featured hourly on televisions in hotels catering to the RIMS conference.

The advertisement previews the symposium at the Marriott Castle Harbour Hotel from May 30 to June 2. The televised previews could be seen by 10,000 and 15,000 people at the conference, providing also the possibility of tourism spin-offs.

It is the first time the conference will feature what it calls RIMS TV, an effort spearheaded by Business Insurance, a US publication, featuring televised material directly from the conference for the consumption of those in official "RIMS hotels''.

Some 50 people have been organised to man the Bermuda booth which will also be visited by Government officials. Each year, the booth distributes thousands of Bermuda bags, containing information about Bermuda's industry.

Mr. North said: "I wouldn't say that we've been flooded with offers to man the Bermuda booth, but we have sufficient numbers of people from the various industries to cover booth duty at the exhibition hall. We should be well covered.'' WESTWARD HO!: Almost 200 Bermudians fly out this weekend to to attend the weeklong 33rd Annual RIMS Conference in San Francisco. Some of the key executives include (seated, from left) Bermuda's RIMS coordinator Mr. John White, Insurance Advisory (IAC) Committee member Mr. Robin Spencer-Arscot, IAC marketing committee chairman Mr. Bill Loschert and chairman of the RIMS subcommittee of IAC's marketing committee Mr. Giles North.
