premiere of Bermuda Grace as an "abomination''.

And Dr. Stubbs fears the film, which could become a series, will lose the Island millions of dollars in tourism revenue.

The MP was speaking after watching last night's exclusive VSB premiere of the movie which will air in the United States tomorrow. It is then expected to reach a worldwide audience.

The film centres on a Philadelphia detective, Sam Grace, who flies in to Bermuda to question a wealthy businessman over a murder. Grace, played by William Sadler, teams up with an ex-patriate cop, played by David Harewood, and a beautiful woman, played by Serena Scott Thomas, in a web of intrigue.

Many shots the Island are shown, including Front Street, Sonesta Beach, Mangrove Bay and the Wharf Tavern, where a fight breaks out.

Bermuda Grace mixes aspects of a thriller with a good deal of comedy in the style of Miami Vice and the Rockford Files. But much of the comedy is apparently aimed at the pace of life in Bermuda.

And the premiere was greeted with fury by Dr. Stubbs. He fumed: "I am recoiling in horror. This film is a total misrepresentation of everything that is near and dear to the reality of life in Bermuda.

"It will take years to recoup the millions of dollars we will lose as a result of this showing in the United States. The image of Bermuda will be fights, fast cars and fast speed boats. It is unbelievable. I intend to complain to everyone who will listen about this abomination.'' Dr. Stubbs described the two main characters as "cowboys'' and then lambasted Bermudians who took part in the filming. He said: "They should hang their heads in shame.''
