Bermuda Junior Service League preparing for Christmas extravaganza

The Bermuda Junior Service League's annual Christmas fund-raisers are noted for their beautiful, hand-made crafts and delicious comestibles, displayed and sold in wonderful settings.

This year's event, on December 4, promises to be one of the very best, and will offer guests a full afternoon of festive fun in two splendid locations.

Entitled "Christmas Now and Then,'' the overall programme will include entertainment, demonstrations, a full Victorian tea, mulled wine and mince tarts, seasonal music, and crafts and home-baked goodies for sale.

The homes involved are Mandalay and Peppercorn, both located on Rebecca Road in Southampton.

Mandalay, the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Faiella, will feature Christmas decorations crafted by League members from local plant material. Here, there will also be demonstrations by Curious Cook Mr. Edward Bottone, as well as the craft stall.

Seasonal music will be performed by pianist Mr. Tom Ray, and bel canto madrigal singers.

Complimentary mince tarts and mulled wine will be served.

Peppercorn, the home of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Terceira, will be decorated in Victorian style, again all hand-made by League members. Here the legendary craft stall will also be found, and will include some of the same decorations used in the house.

Entertainment will be by the Pembroke Players String Quartet, the Warwick Academy P4 Choir, and the Geoffrey Tankard Victorian carollers.

Christmas gift-wrap demonstrations by Ms Maureen Bartley will also be featured.

League members began working on their Christmas extravaganza in April, since which time they have spent thousands of hours preparing crafts and other items for sale. The project has been co-chaired by Mrs. Karen Terceira Mrs. Deborah Morrison and Mrs. Debbie Burville.

And there's more good news for shoppers this year. Merchandise will be replenished at the various stalls at regular intervals throughout the afternoon to avoid as much disappointment as possible.

Tickets for Christmas Now and Then, which takes place between 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., are $25. Numbers are limited. For further information telephone Mrs.

Heather Brewer at 236-4733.
