19th century Bermuda watercolours when they come under the auctioneer's hammer on October 20.

The two lots, one of Commissioner's House at Ireland Island and a portfolio of Bermuda scenes, are expected to fetch between 800 to 1,000 and 700-1,000 respectively.

Mr. Henry Wemyss, director of the British Paintings Department at Sotheby's said yesterday that views of Bermuda generally attract "quite strong interest'' whenever they come up for sale.

The watercolours, by unknown artists, form part of the Topographic Sale, held at Sotheby's Bond Street head sale room once a year, with different sections devoted to specific areas of the world.

"This is a big sale,'' said Mr. Wemyss. "The Bermuda watercolours are in good condition. They are unframed, which indicates they have probably been retained in books or portfolios where they have remained hidden from the effects of light.'' The portfolio of watercolours, described in the Sotheby's catalogue as varying in individual size, depict scenes of St. David's Head, Tucker's Cave, Mangrove Trees and Somerset Isle.

The watercolour of Commissioner's House, listed as "Ireland House'' in the catalogue, is one of three paintings on one mount. The other two are described as an Interior and a Sailing Boat at Sea.

GOING . . . GOING -- This 19th Century watercolour of Commissioner's House is one of the paintings up for sale later this month at Sotheby's auction house in London.
