Fertility expert Dr. Edward Trott Jr. launch the three-day `Health Care for the Mature Woman' postgraduate course at the Southampton hotel.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists hosted the course for about 140 doctors from the US, Canada, Europe and the West Indies.

Dr. Trott, a Purvis and Berkeley Institute graduate, said the course was important as experts predict that by the year 2000, there will be about 50 million people over the age of 50.

The course, which began on Thursday and ends today, focuses on issues like menopause, surgery in elderly patients and hormone replacement therapy.

"I will be speaking on treating a minority menopause patient and how they differ from Caucasian patients,'' he explained. "I will also talk about different tools of the trade, like ultrasound; natural hormone replacements, like herbs; and acupuncture. This is one of my areas of expertise.'' Dr. Trott was to share the stage with four other visiting doctors from the US and Canada who all have different expertise in health care for the mature woman.

Dr. Trott, who now lives in Delaware, also said it was his idea to hold the medical course in Bermuda.

"We usually do about six courses a year. This is just one of them,'' he explained. "They help keep the doctors up to date on what is going on in various fields. The courses are usually held in interesting locations.

"Bermuda is a great venue,'' he added. "And the doctors will have a chance to explore the Island since they only have classes in the morning.'' Dr. Trott said he kept up-to-date on Bermuda through his parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Edward Trott Sr., and through locals he treats at the Centre for Human Reproduction in Newark, Delaware, where he is a associate director.

"About three Bermudians a year come up for fertility help,'' he said.
