Bermudian's son makes his mark in Hollywood
A talented Hollywood director with Bermudian roots is making waves in the TV sitcom industry.
Ron Moseley has spent the past 11 years as the assistant director of comedy television hits such as "A Different World'', "Grace Under Fire'' and "Roseanne''.
And Mr. Moseley, 36, credits his Bermudian grandfather Shirley Jackson and the rest of the Jackson clan for giving him a real appreciation for comedy.
Mr. Moseley is the son of a Bermudian mother, Louise (Jackson) Moseley, and an American father Ron Moseley Senior.
He grew up in the Flatbush and Crown Heights area of Brooklyn, New York and visited his mother's family in Bermuda during the summer months.
Mr. Moseley received his undergraduate degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Southern California in 1984.
He spent his senior year interning with Reuben Cannon, a producer who cast "The Color Purple'' and "Moonlighting''.
He spent time working as an actor and a journalist, but grew tired of acting and decided to opt for a more stable profession.
Mr. Moseley's producer agreed to sponsor his membership into the Director's Guild -- an organisation that opens the doors for aspiring directors.
He then became the second assistant director on "A Different World''.
Since then, he has worked with a number of talented actors and directors at the Carsey Warner production company.
Carsey Warner is the same company that produced popular sitcoms such as "Third Rock From the Sun'' and "The Cosby Show''.
Mr. Moseley said he had been "very fortunate'', explaining that it was rare for someone in the directing business to stay with the same production company for the length of time he had worked there.
The multi-talented Mr. Moseley also has writing credits for two episodes of "A Different World'', `Part of my motivation for becoming involved in the comedy industry stems from my family's sense of humour.' -- Ron Moseley which he co-wrote with Kadeem Hardison who played the character Dwayne Wayne.
One of the episodes featured the late rapper/actor Tupac Shakur, who played the high school friend of actress Jada Pinkett.
Currently, Mr. Moseley is working on an as-yet-unreleased sitcom called "Feelin' Alright'' about a group of teenagers in Wisconsin during the 1970s.
Mr. Moseley and his wife Linda live in Studio City, California, about eight blocks away from Mr. Moseley's studio.
The couple has two children -- a two-year-old daughter named Malloy and a four-year-old son called Jackson.
Mr. Moseley said he named his son Jackson to pay homage to his Bermudian heritage, and he reminisced about family reunions spent in the company of great-uncles the late Vernon Jackson and former Senate president Albert Jackson.
Mr. Moseley noted: "Part of my motivation for becoming involved in the comedy industry stems from my family's sense of humour.'' And he added that his family's emphasis on education is something he plans to pass on to his own children.
Although Mr. Moseley has achieved tremendous success at a young age, he remains modest about his accomplishments.
"Success and age are sort of relative,'' he said, "but I can't complain -- I've been able to provide for my family.'' STAR QUALITY -- Ron Moseley is pictured holding his four-year-old son, Jackson -- named for his Bermudian family.
