BUEI boat parade will add colour to Christmas season
Underwater Exploration Institute's inaugural Christmas Boat Parade.
The BUEI is inviting all boat owners to take part in the event which will take place between 6.30 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. on December 19 in Hamilton Harbour.
Owners are asked to decorate their vessels and dress up their crew in festive fashion for the parade which begins at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club and sails around White's Island. It will culminate with a fireworks display over Hamilton Harbour.
The idea comes from similar events held in the US and Canada, particularly Newport Beach, California's boat parade.
"We are convinced that Bermuda with its many boats and perfect harbour can become just as successful,'' said BUEI's sales director Chris Heslop.
"The BUEI Christmas Boat Parade will provide another chance for boat owners to use their boats and another activity for tourist and locals alike to take part in.
"We hope that the first year will be so spectacular that this event can become a tradition in Bermuda.
"We are also hoping that it will become a family event which will benefit waterfront restaurants and retailers.'' The event is being sponsored by Bacardi, the Ministry of Government and Community Services and XL Insurance.
