Calendar honours women role models
Association of Bermuda (BPWA) has created a calendar highlighting some of the Island's successful women.
The calendar, entitled "Bermuda Women in Profile'', profiles twelve business and professional women who have made contributions to Bermuda and have "enjoyed tremendous success in their fields''.
Leading the profiles is BPWA founder Dame Marjorie Bean.
Dame Bean, described as a trailblazer and a legend in her own time, said she felt very honoured to be profiled in the calender and hoped that it will be an inspiration to all women.
"I hope that it encourages young women to leave their footprints in Bermuda's sands of time,'' she said.
BPWA committee chairperson Mrs. Lauren Bell said all of the women profiled in the calender served as role models "to inspire others to reach their full potential''.
Sen. Yvette Swan, who is also featured in the calender, said she was glad the calender focused on women who can be role models because she believed that "it is important for men and women to see women who have progressed in Bermuda's society''.
And lawyer Mrs. Lois Browne-Evans MP, also featured in the calender, said she hoped the calender would inspire other "young ladies''.
"They need to know that they can break through glass ceilings if they want to,'' she said.
The proceeds from the calendar will go toward the BPWA's scholarship fund and allow the BPWA to support future educational endeavours of young women, Mrs.
Bell added.
Over the years more than 50 BPWA scholarships have been given to young women studying at Bermuda College and schools overseas.
Others featured in the calendar were: Bermuda Hospitals Board executive director Mrs. Sheila Manderson; lawyer Ms Clare Hatcher; managing director of Look Ltd. Mrs. Karla Lacey Minors; co-founder and chairperson of the Portuguese Bermudian Organisation Miss Anna Faria; president of Kast Investment Management Ltd. Mrs. Anne Kast; Broadcast Commission chairman Mrs.
Louise Jackson; Shadow Education Minister Ms Jennifer Smith; Opposition Sen.
Neletha Butterfield; and artist Mrs. Carole Tee Holding.
The calenders, priced at $10 each, are available at various stores throughout the island including, The Christian Bookstore, Co-Op Supermarket, Hamilton Pharmacy, White and Sons, People's Pharmacy, The MarketPlace in Hamilton, Lindo's Family Foods, the Stationery Store, The Complete Office, and Island Hut.
