the old man of the place,'' sang out the 74-year-old bar manager when Fritz introduced us.

I asked "Chicken'' how he came by such a nickname. He responded: "When I was a young boy I could not whistle. I would go by the home of my best friend, John Clarke, and try my best to whistle but I just made a funny little noise.

One day John's mother said I sounded like a chicken. We all laughed and to this day everyone calls me "Chicken.'' "Chicken'' gives Fritz a lot of credit. "He is a very good boss and I am proud to have given 24 years of service to The Lobster Pot. I am very fortunate because I truly enjoy my work.'' "Chicken'' has worked in the hospitality industry all of his life. He was the first person to hold the concession at Shelley Bay Beach and did so for five years.

Following that he did catering in private homes and companies. "Chicken'' and Fritz met catering for Bacardi International and have worked together ever since.

A lot of repeat customers come to The Lobster Pot and sometimes they impose their worries to the bartender. "Chicken'' said: "I tell them I'll listen to you tonight if you come back tomorrow night to hear me.'' He is the father of seven girls and seven boys and has a total of 40 grandchildren. "I shop all year buying Christmas presents for the grandchildren. I make a hobby of it,'' concluded "Chicken'' with a smile.
