Child behaviour expert to lecture here

behavioural problems are invited to a lecture on Saturday hosted by the local chapter of Phi Delta Kappa.

The lecture, "Managing Challenging Behaviours'' will be presented by American educator Barbara Ludlow, who coordinates a graduate course in special education for West Virginia University.

Dr. Ludlow will be speaking at the 106-member Phi Delta Kappa's annual lecture at the Berkeley Institute Auditorium at 10 a.m.

The admission fee of $7.50 will be put toward the Scholarship Fund.

Dr. Ludlow has doctorate and masters degrees in special education from West Virginia University and from the University of Delaware.

Her primary interests are in the development and evaluation of innovative models of teacher education.

She was the editor of a professional reference book in the field and has written numerous journal articles on a variety of topics ranging from early childhood development, to working with children with severe and multiple disabilities.

She is also the author of five Phi Delta Kappa books on topics related to special education including "Teaching the Learning Disabled'', "Pre-school Programs for the Learning Disabled'', and "Trends Shaping the Future of Special Education''.

All of these Phi Delta Kappa fastback books will be available at the lecture.

Dr. Ludlow has given assistance to special education teachers in Egypt and Kuwait, and currently in developing distance education and the use of multimedia technology.

A Phi Delta Kappa spokeswoman said the lecture is aimed at anyone who has contact with children, whether those with special education needs, behavioural problems, or even teenagers.
