help raise one million dollars for its reconstruction.

Several changes have to be made to the building which is entering its 75th year. The League is the oldest charity in Bermuda.

Among the items that need desperate attention are the wooden floors, plumbing, and the roof, which was previously patched up but is now in need of urgent repair.

"The home needs to be totally renovated and refurbished,'' vice president Mrs. Lauren King said.

In the past the home has been used to house boys and girls but after renovations are complete, it may be used for boys only.

"There is a need for homes for both boys and girls but in consultation with Social Services we found we were better suited to deal with boys,'' fund-raising chairman Mrs. Jan LeNoury said.

Executive advisor Mrs. Vivienne King said that the building needed to be completely gutted.

Architectural firm Cooper and Gardner have contributed to the League by drawing up plans for the new facility.

With children needing more and different types of care the League is hoping to take on professional residential care workers to help the children deal with their problems.

"We would like the Sunshine League to be less of an institution and more of a home,'' Mrs. Lauren King said.

The League's annual Tag Day, which will be in Hamilton on December 3 and in the parishes on December 4, is hoped to raise additional funds for the renovations.
