City Hall gets jazzed up for your entertainment
Thursday and Friday.
Presented for the fourth time by Bermudian Mr. Charles Bascome, the "Evenings of Jazz'' will showcase the talents of Americans Mr. John La Porta and Mr. Bob Winter, local musicians Mr. Bascome, Mr. Kingsley Swan and Mr. Frank Esposito and Bermudian singer Ms Suzanne Swan.
Mr.
La Porta, a clarinettist and tenor saxophonist, has been a professor of music at Boston's Berklee College of Music for over 30 years and recorded with jazz greats like Charlie Parker and Charlie Mingus, while Mr. Winter, also a professor of music at Berklee, is currently the pianist for the Boston Pops.
Accompanying the two Americans will be Berklee graduate Mr. Bascome on drums, Somers Isles Jazz Band member Mr. Esposito on bass and Berklee graduate Mr.
Swan on the guitar.
Having appeared in the US and Bermuda, Ms Swan will round out the festival line-up on vocals.
Tickets for the performances, which begin each night at 8 p.m., will sell for $25 apiece. Patron tickets can be had for $30. Part of the proceeds of the festival, which is being hosted by Mr. Derrick (C.J.) Symonds, will go to the Packwood Home for the aged in Somerset.
