The Construction Association of Bermuda, which represents most of the Island's building and engineering contractors, is offering the $4,000 package to pay for training costs in the 1998/9 academic year.

Although the scheme has run successfully in the past it has not been promoted recently. But with the current boom in building projects on the Island construction bosses are eager to encourage more people into the industry.

Applicants can be either young Bermudians hoping to get onto the first rung of the construction ladder or people already in the industry who wish to further their training.

Mel Wright, a director of the association, said: "A sum of $4,000 has been allotted for this year's scheme and the Association intends to award two grants of $2,000 each to the selected applicants. "The association is keen to encourage more people to join the industry, which provides a large range of varied opportunities for both sexes. Apart from trades such as carpentry, masonry, electrical and plumbing, there are many management, engineering, accounting and administration positions to consider.''
