Development Committee.

His wife Saundra, who was a member of the committee, has also stepped down and Mr. Cowen said there were several reasons why he was leaving the committee.

One of the primary reasons was that he has moved out of the Shelly Bay area to a more central location at Crow Lane.

He said "it is like leaving a good friend'' but added it was perhaps time for someone else to take over.

In his letter of resignation he says: "The past years have been exciting ones and we have enjoyed the friendships and challenges shared by the dozen and more people on the committee.

"We would like to acknowledge the countless hours contributed by this group of community activists who desire no more and no less than to see Flatts Village reach its potential.'' Mr. Cowen also said the committee still had much to achieve and he hoped the committee would not become a political football where politicians get involved rather than the local residents.

He said there had been several disappointments during his tenure, but that is the way it is.

The goal of the committee which has been active for three years states: "To rejuvenate the historic Village by encouraging businesses and residents their properties are important, through community festivals and food and craft markets. Also to bring about improvements where road works and public docks are concerned, through community efforts, and Government assistance.''
