The 31-year-old technician has been with C&W since 1983 and works in the technical operations centre at the teleport in Devonshire.

He was described by colleagues as a role model for junior technicians by virtue of his willingness to tackle any task and his dedication and technical ability.

His supervisor described him as having provided exceptional service to the company in 1994.

General manager Ms Jeni Graham presented Mr. Monkman with a plaque and travel voucher.
