Dean Talbot on Student Services

College the department "affirms the vision of the College by providing academic and non-academic support services to the student body, and counselling and career/educational information, to the community at large.'' The Faculty have two centres from which they are able to offer these services; the Counselling and Career Centre and the Academic Resource Centre.

The Counselling Centre provides students and the greater community, with personal career guidance through workshops, personal assessments and career inventories. This Centre also provides student leadership training, the annual Career Day and orientation programmes for parents. and the Academic Resource Centre.

Learning assistance for all students enrolled at the Bermuda College is the primary function of the Academic Resource Centre. One on one tutoring, and small study groups are available from this facility.

The Student Government Council, sports & recreation and a host of student organisations including, the choir, debating society, literary society, the Harvard Model United Nations, and the programme, Read and Get Excited (R.A.G.E.) are made available through this faculty.

The Bermuda College Discovery Programme which helps those students who do not meet the entry requirements to catch up, also falls under this faculty.

Student employment on and off campus is also often arranged through the department.

Looking to the future, Dean Talbot noted that as the College expands and residence halls are instituted, more students programmes and activities will be put in place. A health facility on campus and a full time chaplain, are some of the ideas she has at the moment.

Dean of Student Services, Sheridan Talbot.
