Dengue Fever warning in Cuba
Cuba.
The Caribbean Epidemiology Centre in Trinidad recently informed the Departmnent of Health of an outbreak of Dengue Fever Type II in the city of Santiago de Cuba, in the island of Cuba.
Dengue Fever is a viral disease that is transmitted by the bite of the Aedes aegypti female mosquito. It causes a 'flu-like illness that usually affects older children and adults.
As of June 27, 826 cases had been confirmed in Cuba.
Epidemiologist nurse, Rhonda Daniels said travellers to Cuba are advised of the following information: Ensure that mosquito repellents are used on all exposed areas of the body; The "Dengue mosquito'' usually bites in the early morning and late afternoon; and The signs and symptoms of Dengue Fever include abrupt onset of fever, severe frontal headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pains, loss of taste and appetite, measles-like rash over the chest and upper limbs and nausea and vomiting; and For more information call the Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit at the Department of Health at 236-0224.

FINE FOR CANNABIS CTS Fine for cannabis A Pembroke man was yesterday ordered to pay $150 for possessing cannabis almost one year ago.
Prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor told Magistrates' Court that on July 11 last year, Police saw Gregory Foster, 23, of Mount Hill, outside the Spinning Wheel nightclub on Court Street.
Sgt. Taylor said when Foster saw the Police car he put something on the wall behind him.
Upon searching the wall area, Police found a brown paper twist containing plant material.
When the officers asked Foster if it was his, he replied: "Yeah, it's mine.'' The contents of the twist were later found to be 0.49 grams of cannabis.

POLICE ON GET FIT KICK POL Police on get fit kick The Police service will be introducing a voluntary fitness award programme designed to encourage officers to keep fit.
The programme is voluntary for civilians and officers with more than three years of service.
Abdominal, leg, upper body, and cardio-respiratory endurance are tested as part of the new scheme. Successful participants will be awarded a fitness pin.
