and drive this holiday.

Cathy Belvedere, acting executive director of Centre of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention, said: "CADA has partnered with the National Drug Commission, the Bermuda Police Service and the Road Safety Council on a few occasions.

"We felt it was appropriate to come together and speak collectively from the same song sheet.'' she said.

Road Safety Officer Roxanne Christopher said: "This holiday season provides a wealth of opportunities for connecting with family and friends alike.

"When mixed with alcohol, these activities can be potentially dangerous, and choosing a designated driver is strongly encouraged.'' Ms. Christopher said while she encourages alcohol moderation all year round, during the holidays people should be particularly aware.

"We need to be cognisant of all the potential results of our actions.'' she added.

Kimberly Jackson, Community Development Coordinator for the National Drug Commission, said the NDC recently co-hosted a forum on issues surrounding underage drinking.

"It (alcohol) causes a loss of inhibitions, which leads to aggressiveness, poor judgment and reckless movements, not only in a vehicle but on a bike.

"When you drink and drive, you're not just putting yourself at risk.'' Acting Chief Insp. Charles Mooney of the Police Service added: "We want to ensure the public enjoy this upcoming long weekend and would certainly encourage members of the community to be responsible in their consumption of alcohol, to protect them not only themselves but perhaps others who may venture into their path.

Chief Insp. Mooney asked people to know their own limit and practice "care, courtesy and consideration''.

Mrs. Belvedere said the partnership will continue to meet and update the public on any changes.

This season should see new policies regarding serving intoxicated patrons after the launch of Bermuda Responsible Alcohol Sales and Services, or BRASS, in November.
