your garden need not go bare.

Experts say that there are more than a dozen flowers that can be planted at this time of year.

According to the department of Agriculture and Fisheries the following vegetables and flowers should be planted in the month of June: Vegetables: Bush beans, cucumber, eddoe, squash and tomatoes; Flowers: Amaranthus, balsam, calendula, celosia, coreopsis, cosmos, gaillardia, gazania, globe amaranth, hollyhocks, marigold, portulaca, rudbeckia, vinca and zinnia.

These lovely blooms will surely fill those barren spots which were once occupied by glorious blossoms.

Just remember to water your newly planted flowers (until Mother Nature decides to water them herself) if you want to prevent them from being parched.

Golden sight: Marigolds, like the ones pictured here at the South Shore roundabout, can be planted in the month of June. They are just one of a dozen types that can be planted at this time of year.
