End-to-End walk raises $155,000

A story in yesterday's paper incorrectly identified Marion Squires of the Physical Abuse Centre as Marion Savie. We apologise for the error.

This year's End-to-End walk raised $155,000 which was presented on Friday to five local charities.

The annual event, which took place on May 6, was deemed a "resounding success'' by organisers.

The Physical Abuse Centre, Teen Haven, TB Cancer and Health Association, St.

George's Parish Rest Home and the Hands of Love Ministry each received donations in the amount of $31,000 during a presentation ceremony at City Hall.

End-to-End chairman Paul Rowlerson applauded the efforts of all involved and noted these types of events brought the community closer together.

"It's all volunteer time put in,'' he said.

"It's great that we had so much community involvement and being able to give back to these charities is what makes the whole event worthwhile.'' Organisers especially thanked behind the scene volunteers including St. John's Ambulance, Bacardi International and the MarketPlace stores and patron sponsors Bank of Bermuda Ltd. and BTC Mobility.

CedarBridge Academy students received special recognition for raising more than $7,000.

Individual top money raisers were Jane Ann Henneberger who raised $7,515 and was this year's Gold Club Walker; Christine Bosson ($7,007), Diane Plested ($5,066) and Valerie Madeiros ($4,036).

Organisers encouraged the public to become involved in next year's event and bring even more success to the fund-raising walk.

"In essence, it's an all Bermuda affair,'' said committee member Anne Mello.
