And the 11-hour extravaganza at the Oasis nightclub, on Sunday, October 4, could be the first of many similar fund-raising events.

More than 20 of Bermuda's top musicians, comedians and variety acts have agreed to give their time freely to the Rhythm of Life Foundation. The Oasis is donating its premises and the bar staff to the foundation, with the PA system being paid for by Great Sound PA Rentals.

The Rhythm of Life Foundation has been formed by Mr. Paul Sofianos and Mr. Jon Dobson. Mr. Dobson is a musician and Mr. Sofianos the promotions co-ordinator at Oasis.

"The money is going to the Red Cross for hurricane relief in Florida,'' explained Mr. Dobson. "We chose this cause because we want to draw attention to the excessive damage over there, which is a lot greater than people realise.

"Another reason is that I thought it was going to come here before it veered away. It could easily have been us.'' Mr. Sofianos added: "We are trying to draw attention to the plight of these people. It will show just how people can pull together for a good cause.'' The pair are hoping to raise $5,000 but they say the result of their efforts so far has been outstanding, proving that the cream of Bermuda's entertainment is willing to join together to help others.

Mr. Dobson said: "We have a Who's Who of Bermuda at the Oasis between 4 p.m.

and 3 a.m. and they are all giving their time free.'' Providing the music will be three bands, Hopping Penguinz, the Showbiz Jam Band and Loretta Augustus and Damio Macluen of the Electronic Symphony. There will also be comedians, DJs, and other entertainers from the clubs and hotels of Bermuda.

The organisers want politicians on the Island to join together and support the cause and special invitations will be sent out.

Mr. Dobson and Mr. Sofianos are also seeking companies to put their hands in their wallets to give cash to the foundation and any artists they may have missed are asked to contact them on 293-1134.
