Essence editor to visit Bermuda
Bermuda next month.
Ms Taylor, president of Essence Communications Inc., will speak at a black tie banquet at The Princess on September 29 and at St. Paul's Centennial Hall the next day.
At Princess, Ms Taylor will be addressing the topic "Celebrating The Essence of Success''. And organisers, Successories of Bermuda, said it was designed to attract "a cross section of Bermudians''.
Ms Taylor will be speaking on the theme "In The Spirit'', on September 30, which is the title of her motivational editorials in "Essence'' and her new best-selling book.
Her first public appearance in Bermuda comes as Essence magazine celebrates its 25th anniversary.
During the year the magazine has featured Bermuda as a vacation destination in several issues and it has also used the Island as a backdrop for photo shoots, fashion spreads and editorials.
And those responsible for bringing her here said they believed her visit was timely.
"Susan Taylor is an example and inspiration to millions of people who see her as a living symbol of the magazine,'' Successories of Bermuda account manager Mr. James Spriggs said.
"In many ways she is the embodiment of the Essence woman and we know that many women in Bermuda, as well as men, can relate to her.'' Mr. Spriggs said Successories saw both speaking engagements as "an opportunity for Bermudians to be educated, motivated and inspired to pursue excellence and to work diligently toward achieving their goals''.
Tickets for the Friday banquet are $125 and tables of 10 can be reserved at $115 per person. Tickets for the Saturday evening, which will also feature local singers and dancers, are $35.
Mr. Spriggs said tickets for both events, which begin at 8 p.m., were limited and should be purchased from 27th Century Boutique or Successories by calling 295-4111 as soon as possible.
Partial proceeds from the events will be donated to the Nurses' Education Committee and Nursing Affairs Committee.
