Everything is fresh!

vegetables and fruits, and also some of the less ordinary, line the store walls in a colourful display. And, according to the store's owners, they taste and feel as good as they look. "It's all fresh,'' explained produce manager, Jimmy Smith. "We've just started to be able to bring our own containers in so we can deal directly with suppliers. It will help us to reduce costs and bring in a little better quality of products as there will be a lot less handling and therefore they will last longer.'' Not only are there a variety of imported fruits and vegetables available from the store, but lovers are Bermudian fare can find that there as well. "We have a good supply of Bermuda vegetables,'' said Mr. Smith. "We'd much rather have local products. Anything that we can get locally we will take so we can give customers a choice.'' There will be a few surprises in the store as well, he added. "The organic produce business has really boomed in the United States to the point where today, 12 percent of the wholesale business is dedicated to that. We have had a few requests for organic produce, which was previously not available in Bermuda, but through our new supplier, we have been able to find some and will have between 15 and 20 items available for our grand opening today. Everything we will sell will have been certified as organic and we will have everything from apples, to oranges to potatoes. "We cater to single persons who are shopping, and also to the large family as we offer loose items and those in bulk. Produce is one section that we are constantly trying to fill up on both in varieties and types. To do that, we carry not only what other stores carry, but also a lot of specialty items which customers might not be able to find in other places.'' Added store manager Zachary Moniz: "We will be putting a lot of emphasis on produce. It's probably one of the most important parts of the shop. It's not the largest section, but in terms of impulse items, we have to stay on top of it.''
