Fashion Queen Claudia in South Shore shoot
featuring international super model Claudia Chiffer.
The 21-year-old German beauty, who can be seen in advertisements for Revlon, Channel, and Guess products, has spent the past two days modelling swim suits and day wear on the shoreline at Astwood Park in Warwick.
Flying in from Paris via New York on Monday night and given two days to complete the shoot, which will appear in Elle's December, 1992 and January, 1993 issues, the Christie Brinkley-look-alike has hardly had a moment to relax and take in some of the Island's sites on her first visit.
Her demanding schedule only allowed for relaxation in the form of a night out at Fourways Inn on Tuesday.
But yesterday she told The Royal Gazette she hopes to return to Bermuda with her family, including one sister and two brothers, for a vacation.
"I never take a vacation without my family,'' said the blond model who is looking forward to a much-deserved two-week holiday in Spain soon.
Miss Chiffer, who began modelling professionally four years ago, is fluent in English, French and several other languages to which she is exposed during her international travels.
Dubbed as "the million-dollar baby for Revlon'' by Elle stylist Mr. Loren Laney, she is paid about $25,000 a day and considered by some as the number one model of the nineties to date.
Mr. Laney explained that Bermuda was chosen as the spot for the shoot because it is close to New York, where the magazine is based, and the magazine was constantly looking for new locations.
He said the cove at Astwood Park was the perfect spot for their work because of its natural rock formations and privacy.
And for the most part, Miss Chiffer and her entourage including internationally-acclaimed photographer Mr. Gille Bensimon, went unnoticed by beach-goers.
In fact, the shoot was brought to the attention of one male visitor who was innocently photographing the shoreline with his video camera when a member of the Chiffer group interrupted him, saying: "You're not allowed to record the magazine shoot going on down there.'' "Magazine shoot? Who is the model? Is she naked?'' the suddenly curious visitor asked.
"Claudia Chiffer and she's not naked,'' was the reply.
Miss Chiffer, who stayed at Newstead guest house, is scheduled to leave Bermuda for New York, then Paris later this morning.
SOLID AS A ROCK ... perhaps best describes the status of international super model Claudia Chiffer's career since it was launched four years ago. Miss Chiffer, who models Channel and Revlon products, is seen looking relaxed after completing an all-day shoot along the South Shore at Astwood Park in Warwick yesterday. She leaves Bermuda today after a two-day visit, but hopes to return.
