The four feature-length narrative films are: "Loners'' (Czech Republic), "Mamy Blue'' (Sweden), "With Great Joy'' (Netherlands) and "Dinner and a Movie'' (United States. The fifth film is a documentary: "I was Born A Black Woman'' (Brazil).

"We are delighted that the first five films selected for screening at BIFF 2001 represent such a wide spectrum of the independent filmmaking community,'' director Aideen Ratteray Pryse said. "Our objective this year is to screen a group of films which truly represent the world film making community.'' Overall, BIFF 2001 will screen 14 features and 14 short films in competition for four awards: Jury Award for Best Film, Jury Award for Best Documentary, Audience Choice Award, and Bermuda Shorts Award. The Festival will also feature a sidebar of films from Ireland in a Tribute to Modern Irish Cinema.
