According to the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, the following flowers and vegetables can be planted in the month of August. Just remember that an ample supply of water is needed if you are going to do some planting: Flowers: Celosia, cosmos, gazania, globe amaranth, impatiens, marigold, salvia, snow-on-the-mountain, vinca and zinnia; Vegetables: Beans, beets, carrots, cucumbers, radish and tomatoes (in pots); and In the seed bed (for transplanting later): Broccoli, cabbage, kale, kohlrabi, leeks, mustard greens, peppers and rutabaga.
