Girl Guides off to UK
a two-week International Camp at Grantham, Lincolnshire, UK.
Four-hundred other international guests will be participating, along with 2,100 Guides and Scouts from the UK.
Four other Girl Guides joined approximately 500 Guides and Scouts for a month of `Fun, Fantasy and Footlights' organised by the Connecticut Trails Scout Council of the USA.
The Guides will be meeting participants from Russia, Japan, Kenya, and New Zealand.
*** Wheelock College, located in Boston, Massachusetts, has begun a unique Master's level programme here in Bermuda this week at the Belmont Hotel.
Community Tidbits The entire programme is conducted on the Island with professors from Wheelock College, sponsored by Wheelock College's Centre for International Education and Leadership and Graduate School.
This Master's programme is for 29 adults currently enrolled over the next two years.
Bermuda can be proud of the extra effort currently undertaken by those teachers and others working with or for children that are involved.
Dr.Joan Bergstrom, coordinator of the programme views this group as "pioneers involved in a very exciting and interactional learning process.'' In the fall the two courses that will be offered are `Lifespan/Child Development and Multicultural Children's Literature: Encountering and Understanding Diversity'.
These courses are also open to those in Bermuda who are interested and would like to enrol for an individual course. A undergraduate degree and some experience are required.
The spring phase will focus on `Inclusionary Practice and Models' and `What To Do When You Can't Give Up: Working With Difficult To Understand and Their Parents'. Registration forms to enrol in these courses can be obtained from Dale Sillan Morris 20 Manor House Drive, Smiths FL07 293-3377.
