Golf Classic adds to list of stars
L. Jackson's Celebrity Golf Classic is growing.
And this year's event, which will feature more than 40 top celebrities and sports stars, is well on the way to topping the $251,000 which was raised for charity last year.
The latest additions to the celeb lineup include "Party of Five'' star Jeremy London and former Pittsburgh Steeler running back Franco Harris.
One of Hollywood's top "off-beat'' leading men, Miguel Ferrer, has also joined the cast of characters.
Mr. Ferrer's credits include roles in "Twin Peaks'', "Robocop'', and "E.R.''.
And "Baywatch'' beauty Carmen Electra will grace the scene with her electrifying presence.
Other stars lined up for the event include film director and actor Ed Burns, of "She's the One'' and "The Brothers McMullen'' and movie and TV stars Christopher McDonald and Daphne Zuniga.
The golf classic, which will run from June 3-7, will raise money by selling off the chance to play a round of golf at Port Royal Golf Course with a celebrity.
Individual player slots will cost $1,250 while a foursome package goes for $5,000.
The full sale price will go to the charity that sells the ticket.
There will also be a host of other events over the five days, including a beach party at the Elbow Beach Hotel, a comedy show and a celebrity gala dinner.
Money raised from the event will go to a range of Bermudian charities, as well as Catalog for Giving, an umbrella organisation in New York which helps get needy kids off the street and into self improvement programmes.
The tournament was almost thrown into jeopardy when main sponsors ACE Insurance decided to pull out a few months ago.
But the Elbow Beach Hotel stepped in and is now the event's title sponsor.
Organisers said this year's classic would feature greater access by the public to more activities, with prices "from free to reasonable''.
This year, anyone contributing to the event will have the option to write cheques directly to the charity of their choice.
