Golf Classic wraps up with record take
This year's Samuel L. Jackson Celebrity Golf Classic has been declared a resounding success after Hollywood golfers and local amateurs raised more than $300,000 for charity.
The cash, which will be split between Bermudian and New York charities, tops last year's final total by more than $50,000.
Actor Michael Douglas headed a cast of stars who came to the Island to take part in the four day event, which culminated in a celebrity brunch at the Elbow Beach Hotel yesterday morning.
At the brunch Premier Pamela Gordon, representing local charities, was on hand to receive a cheque from Pulp Fiction star (and the event's namesake) Samuel L. Jackson.
In Saturday's celebrity tournament action, all of which was held at the Port Royal Golf Course, three time National Hockey League All Star Ron Greshner emerged as the overall champion.
Despite windy conditions and the threat of rain the event, running for the second year, attracted massive crowds of spectators, all hoping to catch a glimpse of their favourite stars.
In addition to Mr. Jackson and Douglas, other celebrity faces on hand included Baywatch babe Carmen Electra, Peter Berg of `Chicago Hope,' John Castellanos of the soap `Young and the Restless,' and former bionic man, Lee Majors, making a comeback appearance with a busted leg.
