Golfers rally round in support of Agape House

After Mr. Ford, 89, died last October of cancer, his friends and family wanted to raise cash for the hospice involving something that the keen sportsman loved.
His family approached the Par 5 Club, of which he was the oldest member and one of the longest serving, and said they wanted to help arrange something.
And at the start of April, a golf tournament was held at Port Royal Golf Club, involving more than 20 teams and 80 people.
But it turned out to be so successful, it is hoped that it will become an annual event.
Mr. Ford, who also played tennis until just a few months before he died, was also a soccer lover.
His daughter Kathy Ford said: "We were very touched by what everyone at Par 5 did, and at the support shown by everyone involved. "The club has done quite a lot for my dad since his passing and right up to this point. The club was very dear to his heart -- I know it meant a lot to him -- and it means a lot to his family.'' David Burgess, vice president of the Par 5 Club, said everyone had a fantastic time at the tournament and he hoped it could become a regular event.
"We called the event the Kenny Ford Memorial Golf Tournament and it was very well supported,'' he said.
"His friends and family wanted to say thank you to the hospice and we wanted to do something for Kenny. He was a great guy -- one of a kind.'' Chairman of the Friends of Agape House Robert Caldwell thanked the club and Mr. Ford's family for their donation.
He said: "The friends group supplies funds to the hospice to help make sure that clients are comfortable. We are very grateful for the efforts and donation from Mr. Ford's family.'' And he said the money would go towards the purchase and installation of a new bathtub for the hospice.
