Help out Bermuda's cats!
`Love a Cat Food Drive'.
Leading up to Valentine's day, the bureau will have tin food collection boxes in various grocery stores, including MarketPlaces, and the Supermart.
The BFAB has invited schools to participate in this programme to raise awareness of our young people to the plight of homeless cats.
They have received excellent support from Montessori and Warwick Academy. And they hope that by the time the food drive gets underway, some of the other schools will be able to take part.
"Cats were brought to Bermuda by people and over the years many have been abandoned by people.
"The BFAB has been working to help control the population in an ecologically sound and environmentally friendly way. We have spayed or neutered 3,000 cats to date. We currently feed 1,000 cats at 45 feeding stations on the Island with the help of volunteers,'' a spokesperson said.
If you wish to donate cash, the BFAB mailing address is PO BOX WK 91, Warwick WK BX.
*** Bermuda will have a chance to enjoy the artistic talents of its primary and secondary school students during February and March thanks to a collaborative effort between the Bermuda Society of Arts and the Ministry of Education.
Filling the Society's spacious gallery in the west exhibition room of City Hall until February 21 will be selected works of primary students from Government and private schools.
Minister of Cultural and Community Affairs Yvette Swan officially opened the exhibition last Friday during a reception for exhibiting students and their parents.
A similar exhibition by the Island's senior schools will be opened on February 28 by Minister of Education Jerome Dill.
Recognitions for outstanding submissions, in the form of complimentary membership in the Bermuda Society of Arts, will be presented during the official reception for exhibiting students and their parents. The show will run until March 13.
Gallery hours for both shows will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Saturday with no charge for admission. School groups wishing to tour the exhibitions must reserve in advance by telephoning or faxing Bermuda Society of Arts curator, Miss Nancy Acton, during normal working hours.
